Genealogy

I started searching for ancestors as a hobby – I started to explore my own family history. In the beginnings it is often still quite good, because you are in the current time and maybe by so-called contemporary witnesses – i. e. still living relatives – here you have good opportunities to move forward. If these relatives do not exist, the data protection requirements meanwhile make the search increasingly complex and complex. However, the important thing is: is researched from the here and now back into the past – and quite meticulously. It is not possible to skip a generation and close this gap by guessing. Rather, it is the case with ancestral research that all times and numbers should be timeless and stored with sources. So the important thing is: work seamlessly. Whether your goal is a simple line of ancestors or an entire family tree.

IN THE ARCHIVE

When working in the archive, it is important to work in a goal-oriented way and above all to fully capture all relevant data. Because: additional archive sessions cost not only time but also money. Therefore my tip: always capture the entries completely, even if they are supposedly unimportant information. Later on, this information may be useful sources, e. g. when it comes to further research sites (e. g. denomination – nata haeretica, former place of residence or farm size and occupation). Of course, you should also consider: The date of baptism is indicated in the church matriculation, which is not necessarily the same as the date of birth and may therefore differ a few days. They will also find differences in the spelling of names – this can sometimes complicate the search, including the fact that common names are very common in the archives.

Nevertheless, I am happy to help you with my experience and am at your disposal for research in the Bavarian archives.
